Analysis UPSC Pre 2016 GS

After a year’s hard work finally the UPSC Pre 2016 is over. This years GS paper broke everyone’s expectations. With changing times UPSC is also changing at the a fast pace. UPSC Pre 2016 exams was a curve ball. The Paper 1 – GS was more oriented towards the Current Events than the standard static part of the syllabus.

So the aspirants who have been following the Current Affairs on regular basis had an edge. There were very few analytical questions in this years exam as was expected. An aspirant who was more oriented towards facts and figures would have done well in today’s exam. Looking at the way the exam paper was set and the general feedback and remarks of the students we think that this year the cut off would be slightly higher than last year.

Over all, the exam paper was well set and around 36% of the paper could be considered as easy and around 20% was really tough, these were the questions which would have been solved by those known as veterans in the field. So just shy of the mid mark the GS paper for UPSC Pre 2016 was moderately difficult.

On the basis of the above our estimation for the cut off for UPSC Pre 2016 is as follows :

  • General Category : 110 +/- 5
  • OBC : 105 +/- 5
  • SC : 100 +/-  5
  • ST : 95 +/- 5

The above cut offs for UPSC Pre 2016 are just an estimation by looking at the way the exam paper was set and the feedback received from various sources
