The Fall of Poland

In the early morning of September 1, German troops crossed the border with Poland. Poland's strategic position was extremely difficult - initially Poland had an 800km-long border with Germany, encompassing it from 3 sides. In addition, the length of the border with East Prussia was another 300 km. There was nothing to defend such a border. The Polish army was not fully mobilized, and there was very little modern technology.
The only way for Poland to defend itself was to withdraw troops to the line of the Narew, Vistula, and San rivers. But this meant the loss of almost all of the country's industry. There were no defensive structures on the border with Germany, since after the 1919-1920 war, the Soviet Union was considered Poland's main enemy. The Polish General Staff had no acceptable combat plan.
On the same day, Britain issued an ultimatum to cease hostilities. Germany was given 48 hours to do this. France hesitantly joined the ultimatum. However, German troops continued to advance, knocking down Polish troops from their positions. On September 3, without waiting for a response from Berlin, Neville Chamberlain announced on the radio that Britain was at war with Germany. A few hours later, France declared war on Germany. The war has become European.
At that time, the Poles bravely tried to repel the invading enemy. There is a known case when an elite cavalry brigade "Helped" in a mounted formation tried to attack Guderian's tanks with pikes. Alas, the pikes couldn't penetrate the armor...
but what about the allies? But nothing. On September 9, a small number of French divisions crossed the border with Germany in the Saarbrücken area, occupied several towns and stopped. To the call to bomb the Black Forest in order to deprive Germany of paper, the British Air Force commander indignantly replied, "No, this is private property. You will also ask to bomb the Ruhr.
On September 17, the Red Army crossed the border with Poland. Poland's situation immediately turned from extremely bad to hopeless. The commander-in-chief of the Polish army, Marshal Rydz-Smigly, gave the order not to resist the Red Army and to be interned in Romania, where the government of the country had already fled. However, the troops that approached Warsaw were repulsed and the capital did not want to surrender despite the ultimatum. And then Warsaw was brutally bombed. On September 28, the Polish capital capitulated. However, there were separate battles in early October. The glow of war broke out over the world.
