Ronaldo's career began in the youth teams of Sporting Clube de Portugal. He progressed through several youth levels before making his debut for the first team in 2002. He was given the number seven jersey and soon established himself as a key player for the club, winning his first league title and two European Cups. He also won the Ballon d'Or in 2006, becoming only the second player to win the award twice.

In the 2009-10 season, Ronaldo moved to Spain's Real Madrid for a then-record transfer fee of about $131 million. He quickly became a mainstay in the team and rivaled Lionel Messi for supremacy as the game's top scorer. He topped the 40-goal mark in eight of his nine seasons at Real Madrid, and even reached 60 goals in two of them. He won La Liga titles in 2014, 2016, and 2017, along with a further four Champions Leagues and five more Ballon d'Ors, cementing his status as one of the greatest players ever.

After leaving Real Madrid in 2018, Ronaldo joined Italian powerhouse Juventus for a reported $140 million. He dominated his first season in the Serie A with back-to-back league titles and also won the Supercoppa Italiana and 2021 Coppa Italia. He later returned to Manchester United, but his second spell at the club was short-lived as he sought new challenges in 2022. The move to Al Nassr was his next stop, and he has already broken the record for goals in a single season in the Saudi Pro League.

As well as his club success, Ronaldo has been a mainstay for the Portugal national side and has captained his nation at five World Cups. He has won more than 30 trophies in his career, including five UEFA Champions Leagues and five Ballons d'Ors. He is the only player to have won league titles in England, Spain and Italy, and is the only person to score more than 100 goals at a World Cup. He is also the only player to have scored more than 800 senior career goals.
